Complicated Story. It Can make You SPIN to No End.

Curiosity or what, because I am confused about the Mandarin TV Series "Chronicle of Life" starring Hawick Lau as the Emperor Kangxi (he looks like Avan Joggia) and Zheng Suang ( has resemblance with Arianna Grnade) as Wei Lin Lang, in this series about the story of the Qing Dynasty wherein the cast of characters live inside the Forbidden City in Peking.  Forbidden is known as "HAREM" and its definition is quoted above:

Harem (HAR-em) originally from Arabic word "harim" and it's termed as   forbidden, a place where Muslim women, out of bounds to all men except head of family. Definition from "The New Book of Knowledge" (Letter H).

"Out of bounds" - what does it supposed to mean? In the television series they called each other as brothers and sisters. If you are confused about the translation of that C.O.L. then I am as confused as you. It's a very strange story.

Muslim women only! You mean the position as "consorts" are for Muslim women only? The slaves are Muslims? The "eunuchs" are Muslims? Why eunuchs? So that the "sperm bank " wont be contaminated? How about the Emperor? Was he a Muslim? I first thought the Emperor was a Buddhist. Nalan Rong Ruo (played by Vin Bin who is alook-alike of Matt Bennett of Victorious) Versatile actor. He's so good with swords. Nalan,   the cousin of Wei Lin Lang looks like Turks so he was probably a Muslim and also based on his attire he wore on every scenes. But the Emperor's wardrobe?  He seems to be a Mongolian Emperor and maybe that period of time, fashion designers were hired to make the best suits for Emperor or else the story would be "The Emperor Without Clothes." He could be a Buddhist because he practised Buddhism in one of the scenes when offering prayers and asking for rainfall.

Wei Lin Lang in her portrayal as a Buddhist practising Buddhism, one of the scenes showed her praying to Buddhist gods and deity. I first thought she was a Christian. Whatever! I think the story is as complicated as the true nature of the origin of religion.

However complicated the story of this television series CHRONICLE OF LIFE on OMNI I dare not to miss it even if there's no English subtitles.
